Briefly describe "The Lucifer Effect"?

Briefly describe "The Lucifer Effect"?

Why do good people engage in bad deeds? Why do one class of civilized, civilized people hurt another class of people? What is the reason for this?

Sociologist  Philiph Zimbardo has  spent 40 years of his life searching for answers to "what and why" and he thinks he has.

The Lucifer Effect is  named after the angel of God's grace. This theory basically analyzes how good people can do terrible things.

A key component of the Lucifer effect is  dehumanization.  This is when some people do not regard other people as ‘human’ and do not consider them worthy of sympathy or sympathy. Another important element of the Lucifer effect is the " Desire for Conformity
."

Let us know about one of his intriguing experiments. In 1981, he created an artificial prison and conducted research. In 2003, he also examined the torture of prisoners in Abu Ghraib prison, the results of which are similar to the Stanford experiment.

The Stanford Prison Experiment

In 1981, Zimbardo was a young professor at Stanford University and had an affair with one of his graduates, Christina Maslach. He was interested in studying power dynamics and how social roles affect human behavior. He set up a fake prison in the basement of Jordan Hall in Stanford and divided 24 college students into ' prisoners ' and ' guards '. The plan was originally for two weeks. While in ‘prison’, Gimardo and his colleagues will monitor the behavior of prisoners and guards. They hoped the information would help them understand the subtleties of real prison.

Gimbardo had already told guards not to physically abuse the detainees. On the second day of the trial, the prisoners revolted and the guards began to use the ultimate tactics to bring them under control, such as covering their heads with paper bags at various times, forcing them to clean the toilet with their bare hands. The situation continues to get worse as the tests continue. Many of the inmates began to show severe signs of trauma. That is why five of the prisoners had to be released immediately.

Despite noticing these issues, neither Gimbardo nor his co-researchers had any plans to close the experiment early; However, on the fifth day, Maslach (his girlfriend and student) came to visit that prison. He warned Zimbardo about what he saw and said, 'I think what you are doing to these boys is horrible and despicable!' There was an argument between the two of them, but in the end Gimbardo agreed with Maslach that these tests were harming the prisoners and the guards, and on the sixth day (eight days ago) he finished the test.

Later, Gimbardo wrote, acknowledging his own misunderstanding of the study, "I was guilty of my wrong and ineffective decision, I was a sinner ... I'm sorry for that."

Even Maslach was very concerned; When he first saw the Stanford prison experiment, he was not sure about whether you want to say anything, because nothing else is wrong because the researchers bhabenaniebara Remember what I told you before, Lucifer effect, another important element is the " consistency longing for (Desire for Conformity).
When others around you are involved in bad deeds, you also start behaving badly in order to adapt to them.

Philip Gimbardo published a book on the subject in 2007 called "The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil". The book won the William James Book Award in 2006.

Note: It is not possible to explain the whole matter clearly in this one answer. I also have to know more about it. I will write the details if the subject is ever clearer.

Thanks
